OnePlus 3 Android 8 Oreo update - for beta users, final update by end of 2017

OnePlus phones usually get fast Android updates, although the word fast is relative here. This time too it is not different. Android Oreo update is now arriving for OnePlus 3 just weeks after Google announced the new Android 8 version. Although for now the update is only meant for people who are part of OnePlus 3 close beta testing. In other words, regular OnePlus 3 users should wait another month or two before they can get it.

The Android 8 Oreo update for the OnePlus 3 comes in at about 800MB, which is significantly smaller than around 1.3GB Oreo Update that Google pushed out for Pixel phones. But these are early days and the Oreo update for the OnePlus 3 is beta software. In fact, it has some bugs. People who have installed it are talking about Wi-Fi and performance issues. But this is how beta software is and that is why it is still part of the closed group and not available to all OnePlus 3 users.

Going forward, OnePlus will be fixing the bugs in the OnePlus 3 Oreo update and will bring out at least several versions of it before it is ready for regular users.
It is expected that the company will also soon bring out similar Android Oreo update for the OnePlus 3T and the OnePlus 5.
The Android Oreo was announced late last month and given how things work in the world of Android, it will be a while -- read couple of months -- before some phones get it. For now the Oreo is only available for Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones. In the coming days, expected to the September 11, it is likely to come to the Nexus 6P. Subsequently it will reach Nexus and other eligible Google devices.
Other companies will take even longer to push it out. Although the final Oreo update is likely to come to OnePlus 3, OnePlus 3T and the OnePlus 5 by the end of the year. It will also come to Nokia 6, Nokia 3, Nokia 5 and Nokia 8 by the end of 2017. Other phones that will get it by the end of the year include some phones made by Motorola, Xiaomi Mi A1 and possibly high-end devices like the Galaxy S8, Galaxy Note 8 and the HTC U11.
Although both the OnePlus 3 and the OnePlus 3T are now one-year-old phones, they are popular. Millions of people use them. In fact, the OnePlus 3T is so popular that it is still sold in India. Currently the phone is on sale at a special price of Rs 25,999 that is Rs 4,000 less than its list price of Rs 29,999. Today is the last day of this special sale.
Both the OnePlus 3 and the OnePlus 3T will get the Android Oreo as the last Android version update. Next year, the OnePlus 5 will be updated to the Android P but the OnePlus 3 and the OnePlus 3T will continue to remain on Oreo.
